Perfect Tense with 'hebben': Talking About Past Experience
The Dutch perfect tense (voltooid tegenwoordige tijd) is formed with a conjugated form of 'hebben' (to have) plus a past participle placed at the end of the clause. It is the most common way to describe completed past actions in spoken Dutch and is essential in interviews when discussing your professional history. Weak verbs form the past participle with 'ge-' + stem + '-d' or '-t'; strong verbs change their stem vowel.
