One grammar move, explained once, that unlocks dozens of sentences.

Polite Requests with ~ていただけますか

~ていただけますか (verb te-form + いただけますか) is one of the most useful polite request patterns in Japanese. It means 'could you please ~?' and is more respectful than ~てください. It is ideal at service counters, in business situations, or any time you want to ask without sounding demanding. Build it by taking the て-form of a verb and adding いただけますか.

[Verb て-form] + いただけますか

ルートを教えていただけますか?

Could you tell me the route?

免許証を見せていただけますか?

Could you show me your driver's license?

領収書を出していただけますか?

Could you give me a receipt?
