Pattern of the day

One grammar move, explained once, that unlocks dozens of sentences.

Directional Imperatives: idź, skręć, przejdź

Polish uses imperative verb forms to give directions. The three most common are 'idź' (go), 'skręć' (turn), and 'przejdź' (cross or go through). These come directly from the infinitive and are used without a subject pronoun. Pair them with direction adverbs (w lewo, w prawo, prosto) or prepositions (przez, aż do, przy) to build complete direction phrases.

[Imperative verb] + [direction or location phrase]

Idź prosto do końca ulicy.

Go straight to the end of the street.

Skręć w prawo za mostem.

Turn right after the bridge.

Przejdź przez park i skręć w lewo.

Idź aż do skrzyżowania i skręć w prawo.
